So Why Am I Dressed as a Pirate in this Restaurant

The freecreditreport.com commercials appeal to viewers for several reasons. The original songs performed in the commercials are informative while fulfilling the need for aesthetic sensations. The songs are catchy and entertaining, and they appeal to their audience by promoting a need to feel safe, by showing the opposite with characters who have a bad credit score. Another way the freecreditreport.com commercials appeal to consumers is because they are numerous, as well as being funny and entertaining. This way, with every new commercial, the consumer is curious to see how entertaining the new commercial is compared to the previous ones.
However, like in William's writing, the ad attracts the viewer with a life style, or more correctly. The advertisement feeds off of the fear of not progressing in life because of a bad credit score. Instead of informing consumers of the product, it makes customers want to not end up like the characters in the commercial, working somewhere like a restaurant or renaissance fair.

The free-credit-report.com commercials are extremely catchy and appeal to many different viewers for different reasons. I find myself randomly singing with them when they come on, even though I may not fully think about the purpose behind them. I also feel that the advertisements use people's desire to achieve and fear of failure as a way to sell their service. Nobody grows up wanting to work in a restaurant or live in their parents basement for the rest of their lives. People have bigger dreams and the idea their dreams could be taken away from them causes anger and distress. Yet the advertisement also uses humor to draw people in, their lyrics and situations are funny and who doesn't like that creepy old grandma?

I agree with this post. The commercials are catchy and entertaing and really do hit at a real problem many people face. In today's world people need credit and its amazing how much a number can affect your ability to get a loan, a car, or even a house. The problem with the ad is that people get so caught in all the song and the funny things the guy has to do to get by that they don't realize how important your credit score is. I do agree that ultimately it does illustrate the author's use of William's point that the ad pushes the fear of a lifestyle and what people don't want to happen to them. Which is an interesting difference from most commercials that make illusions to grand lifestyles that will surely occur if you buy their product.

These freecreditreport.com commercials are very catchy indeed, i also find myself singing along with them. Their humorous situations show you everything that can happen if you don't subscribe to their product, therefore appealing to your need to feel safe and the need for affiliation (with the product) so that you don't end up working at a renaissance fair.

Good comments, I also think the ad could be seen as Williams Psychology used against belief. It uses humans natural love of music and our reception to catchy phrases to ingrain the song and the product in our minds. The humorous song could easily pop into our heads and create a subconscious need for to check out the free credit report.

I agree that this advertisement is very successful because it uses the lyrics in an informative way to sell their product. Also because the commercial is so fun and lively, people will enjoy watching the commercial. Nobody wants a bad credit score, and by watching this advertisement it seems like a way out of it. The commercial song is very easy to follow and understand and that is why its very appealing. Also since nobody wants to drive an old used car, it seems by having the free credit report it can solve many problems.

Haha. Yeah, the freecreditreport.com commercials are pretty funny and catchy, but thats what it takes these days to run an effective ad. Right? I mean nobody remembers... (and I can't even think of one now) a commercial that doesn't leave a good impression. And you're right when you say that it kink of makes you worry about where you could end up if you have a bad credit score. Kinda makes you wanna go to there site huh...?

This is probably one of the best commercials for getting stuck in your head. It has such a cool jingle that I've found myself humming it long after the it's over. One thing I don't like is the fact that they aren't very serious in the ad when your credit score will affect you the rest of your life. YOu can't get a loan for a house or anything else for that matter with bad credit. It also plays on our insecurity since there are a lot more identity thefts occuring today.

Not only are the commercials humorous but they are great at making a song that will stick in your head. I definately know the website to go to. One of Fowles appeals present in these commercials is the need to feel safe. In the world we live in today it's hard to believe that everyone is as honest and caring as some of your own friends. Having a website with the ability to make sure everything is normal with your credit saves your own constant worry 24/7. I love these commercials and they definately found the right way to promote themselves without degrading other people and products.

The free credit report commercials are smart ideas. The songs that have been used in the series of 6 have all been catchy. I found myself singing along at one point. As an advertiser, that is a great achievement. However, this is a case where the song overlooks the product. I feel people will remember the commercial for the song and not what the song promotes. There's potential in the ideas of these ads, but it's falling just short in my opinion.

This is a very catchy commercial. I love how this commercial uses a catchy tune and therefore you are always singing it in your head which makes you think about it a lot which, in turn, makes you want to get your very own "free credit report." I agree with the summary. Great commercial.

I think this ad employs the psychological technique that Jib Fowles cited in "Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals" mostly in appealing to people's need for prominence. People want to be respected and often, a false kind of respect is associated with money: the promised reward of using "free-credit-report".
